Sequenced Road Investments & Clearing Of The Mayan Forest
نویسندگان
چکیده
Roads are widely said to be one of the most important predictors of frontier expansion and deforestation in tropical forest regions, across a range of land dynamics . Though they are widely studied, careful documentation of the magnitude of roads’ impacts is in fact relatively scarce. Not infrequently, a simple aerial or satellite snapshot is said to ‘document’ the impacts of reduced transport costs. More generally, average cross-sectional correlations of forest amount and road density are offered but are insufficient to demonstrate a causal link or to establish its magnitude. Further, even if causality and magnitudes were well established, within the design of development policies for which the balance of development and degradation outcomes is important, it would be helpful to know how deforestation and related consequent impacts vary with the context in which the road investment is made . We suggest, and demonstrate, that to address these questions it is exceptionally helpful to be able to track the sequence of road investments underlying the most recent available road map as well as the sequence of clearing underlying the latest forest map.

Information on the productivity, costs and applications of the logging system is a key component in the evaluation of management plans for the rehabilitation and utilization of Caspian forests. Skidding and road construction costs are expensive forest operations. Determining the optimum forest road network density is one of the most important factors in sustainable forest management. Logging me...
متن کاملForest Road Design in Stable Location to Minimize Erosion (Case Study: Vaston District)
Soil erosion is of the most important environmental challenges and factors of forest damage, which is, occur because of the land use change, road construction and lack of vegetation cover. Forest soil is naturally penetrable but forest roads are not. This issue causes the flows runoff on road surface and washes soil particles. Thus, forest roads must be planned and constructed accurately. So, t...

The main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of forest road construction on the Soil Organic Carbon Stock (SOCS) in Ziarat Catchment. Therefore, soil samples were collected from five land use types including road construction, cultivated area, channel bank, pasture and forest land and soil organic carbon concentration and bulk density were measured in the samples and SOCS were...
